I am not 'used' to religious billboards but in no way am I offended by them. In fact, I am proud to live in a country where religious freedom is a constitutional right.
Technically, even "non-theists" should be allowed to broadcast their message via billboards.
The previous anonymous attack on you was from an obviously intolerant, rude, defensive and closed-minded person, who, because of his/her sense of diffidence, interpreted your observation as a critical statement.
